The onboard SATA works with ESX, however I had to use a USB CDROM to install since it did not have a driver for the IDE CDROM. | |

Just tested the (now free) ESXi 3.50 upgrade 2 on the DP35DP based system.. I was able to install from the IDE CD-Rom just fine, howerver after that I was unable to mount CDs from the host.. So I guess the IDE CD-Rom is good enough for the install, but is still not recognized by the ESXi server once installed.. I was unable to use the onboard NIC, I found an old PCI 3com EtherFast NIC lying around so I put that in and then it worked... Besides the NIC, everything else was standard... With some difficulty, I was able to install windows XP as a guest OS and now it runs fine... I have a quad core processor (q9550), The ESXi server seems to only recognize one of the cores... I don't know if this is because ESXi doesn't recognize something on my motherboard, or if this is some sort of limitation on the freeware ESXi license... If I cannot get the quad processors to work, I will give up and just use some other virtualization product on a hosted OS (Id rather have 4 cores running hosted, than 1 core running native)... |

I have two systems running with this board. Both are Q6600 cpus. The onboard NIC won't work, so I used the ProGT. No issues there. Interesting, the first box I used an IDE DVD, which it would load the install CD with but wouldn't install from. So I used an HTTP install for that one. However, on the second box I am using a SATA DVD drive, and the GUI installer works just fine. ESX does show those red PIC errors but nothing seems effected by it. |
