Hardware info link incorrectly points to HP DC7900. This hardware most closely resembles the following: Intel DQ35JOE at http://ultimatewhitebox.com/motherboard/87 Intel DQ35JO at http://ultimatewhitebox.com/motherboard/160 |

Intel DQ35JOE BIOS version 0942 Intel Core2 E8500 @ 3.1GHz ESXi 4.1.0 and ESXi 4.1.0 Update 1 will install and boot this system only if the CD-ROM drive is SATA. An IDE CD-ROM drive failed installation. ESXi 5.0.0 will install on this system with SATA CD-ROM drive; however, it will fail to boot into SATA hard drive in either IDE or AHCI modes. During installation it will also report that Virtualization Hardware does not exist or is disabled in BIOS. Updated BIOS to version 1143 revealed 3 new settings: Intel Virtualization Technology (default = Disabled, changed to Enabled) Intel Trusted Execution Technology (default = Disabled, leave Disabled) Intel VT for Directed I/O (VT-d) (default = Disabled, changed to Enabled) If you enable Intel Trusted Execution Technology, you will get a purple screen of death. Attempting to upgrade ESXi 4.1.0 Update 1 to ESXi 5.0.0 results in an ominous warning about custom VIBs. The DQ35JOE does not use any custom VIBs, and forced migration to ESXi 5.0.0 worked fine. I did not have any existing VMs on the ESXi 4.1.0 Update 1 system however. |
