Adding Storage to "white box" ESXi install?

Hi folks! I\'ve managed to get VMware ESXi installed onto my Dell Optiplex GX270\'s primary master IDE drive using the instructions from http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/ESXi_install_to_IDE_drive/ESXi_install_to_IDE_drive.php and things look wonderful. I\'ve been up and running for several weeks now, with no issues at all. Now, however, I\'m making plans to do some migrations, and wanted to add some storage. So, I grabbed a spare SATA disk, tossed it in, configured the BIOS, and fired things up. ESXi still boots just fine (well, by manually telling the BIOS where to boot), but when it comes up, I don\'t see the SATA drive in VMware Infrastructure client, under the storage or add storage locations. For a moment I thought maybe the SATA drive wasn\'t compatible with ESXi, but when I start the ESXi installer from CD, it immediately finds the SATA drive, and offers to let me install it.

So, for the real question... Is there a way to make ESXi recognize the SATA controller and drive, now that I have ESXi installed, or do I need a fresh install to make this work? Thanks,

Greg

If you have the trial ESXi version, run esxcfg-rescan vmhbaX. If you are using the free one, then you\'ll want to get the RCLI Virtual appliance from VMware, and run it from within the appliance.
