Whitebox suggestions

I\'m just now wanting to start dabbling with building my own home lab. I\'m wanting to do this for as cheap as possible. Here\'s what I\'m thinking about so far:

I want two ESX hosts so that I can tinker with EVERY feature of ESX. In addition, I\'m going to have a domain controller, Citrix WI and published app server as well as a Citrix Provisioning server and DDC. Now, I\'m thinking I can do all of this from within one box. I\'ll install esx and connect all the VM\'s to an internal only vSwitch except one, which will be the VM with vCenter on it (which will be connected to the internal only vSwitch as well as another vSwitch connected to a pNIC) so that I can log on to it remotely and then use the console to connect to the remaining VM\'s. The other ESX host will be a VM as well, with two vNIC\'s connected to the same internal only vSwitch.

A couple questions about this configuration:
1) Will it work? Given what I\'ve said above, should I be able to test all functionality (FT, vMotion,sVMotion etc.) of ESX?
2) What are some suggestions for hardware to make this work? I\'ve heard the ML110G5 is good and compatible with all ESX features...what else has everone used?

Thanks in advance for the help!
